I am so glad you are here on this Thursday afternoon with me. I am excited to share more abo​​ut Jenna Wren Writes and to share my top 5 tips to find your brand voice. Today is our first official blog post for Jenna Wren Writes, and I will be popping a bottle of champagne to celebrate this evening! The pretty aspen trees outside my window are just starting to bloom with greenery, so today feels fitting for the start of something fresh and new.  Don’t you just love spring?

With over a decade of experience in the industry and four years as a high school English educator, I know the importance of a powerful brand voice and excellent copy.  I am here to discover who you are as a person, a brand, and a wedding professional. Then we move together into the greater picture of your aesthetic, your dream clients, your website, and your social media presence. I am a copywriter for creatives and wedding industry professionals.

Find Your Brand Voice

Now that you know a little more about me and the story behind Jenna Wren Writes, I am here to share my top 5 tips to finding your brand voice.  Finding your brand voice doesn’t have to be an anxiety-inducing venture! But I get it. One of the hardest parts of our journey is knowing ourselves fully and being ready to own our voice. 

5 Tips to Finding Your Brand Voice:

  1. Record yourself talking

I know this may sound like a strange approach to finding your brand voice, yet I could not be more serious.  Grab your phone and record anything and everything you can with your voice memo app.  Listen for certain inflections, idioms, unique personality traits…what you are searching for is the tone of your brand voice.  Is your natural interaction with others down-to-earth, full of energy, soft spoken, bold? You will begin to learn your natural brand voice so that you gain important insight into how you interact with your clients.  

  1. Core Value Inventory

          What are your core values as a brand, a person? You may not know what these are just yet, and that is ok! Your core values tie closely with your brand voice because the way your voice is perceived comes from the foundation of what you stand for.  Also, you can pull from these core values in what you share on social media, your blog, and in your client experiences.  You will find your brand voice based on your core values also aligns you with the right industry professionals.  In turn, this will lead to your ideal client as you build relationships with those in the industry that share the same core values.  So get on this right away! Discover your brand voice by knowing your core values. 

  1. Ideal Client Avatar 

             Who do you want to serve? Whom does your brand speak to? To truly land on the strength of your brand voice, you have to know your ICA inside and out.  You need to know the type of client that you desire to serve.  I also encourage reaching above where you are in the market currently.  Who do you want to serve in a year? How will this leveling up change your brand, voice, and marketing towards this new ICA? If you would like to chat through these questions, I would love to help guide you!   1. Enneagram and Myers-Briggs: Take those Personality Tests

These tests are incredibly insightful both in learning more about your brand voice and   tone, but I have found it helpful in building relationships and serving my ICA.  You may find that you are pursuing connections that aren’t meant for you because your voice isn’t aligned, or you may find the boldness to reach in a new direction because you know yourself better than before.  Knowing ourselves well is a key part to building a successful, thriving brand on our terms.  What have you discovered about your brand voice based on these types of tests?   1. Ask for Feedback

  Now is a great time to gain insight from others by requesting feedback on their interactions with you. You can survey past clients, vendor friends, your loved ones, and others who will give you honest feedback.  Ask them to share with you  your strengths, weaknesses, and the feeling they have when they interact with you.  My caveat is to protect your energy by only asking those who can give you honest, open, but most importantly kind in their feedback.  Don’t seek feedback from those who are complainers, negative, or whom you cannot trust with this open place you are creating.  Trust your gut on this one! Once you have received notes from these relationships, look for common threads.  You may find that everyone comments on your warmth and strong communication abilities.  In terms of your weaknesses, you can find ways to strengthen your approach.  All of this is vital information as you find your brand voice!
