Searching for Colorado proposal ideas? I am excited to share this beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park Colorado proposal to add to your list of ideas on how to pop the question. Suraj and Cori are the sweetest couple and they traveled from Indiana to spend time in Colorado’s stunning mountains. Cori has a deep love for Colorado and was excited to share this beautiful place with her then boyfriend Surarj. One of the very best moments of 2021 was helping Suraj surprise Cori when he proposed. Not gonna lie, I was in tears watching their love story unfold in front of me. Suraj reached out with the plan to propose to Cori while on their Colorado trip, the day after seeing one of their favorite bands play at Red Rocks Amphitheater. Originally he wanted to hike a fourteener or explore Garden of the Gods, but the unpredictable fall weather had him searching for a spot in Rocky Mountain National Park.
He landed on Dream Lake inside Rocky Mountain National Park, which is one of our favorite spots for Colorado proposal ideas and locations. When we arrived at the park, I found out from the park ranger that Dream Lake parking was full. This can happen very quickly in high traffic and popular hiking trails, especially in the summer and fall months. Unfortunately it is hard to know if parking is close or a trail is close due to parking being full until you arrive at a location. I highly recommend searching through my list of places to get engaged as you hunt for Colorado proposal ideas to find a spot that will be a great back up. Suraj and Cori were having lunch in nearby Estes Park, so I quickly texted him that Dream Lake was closed and we jumped online to search for our back up spot and make sure it wasn’t too crowded.
Planning any event in Rocky Mountain National Park takes a lot of foresight to ensure that the locations you are dreaming of aren’t overcrowded, closed for the winter, or blocked off after the park recovers from the 2020 wildfires. Even though we had to quickly pivot to a different location for Suraj and Cori, the weather was perfect and the trails at the new spot were easily accessible. My assistant and I got into position along the lake side, and Suraj and Cori arrived to hike the trail not long after we did. Suraj and I coordinated a way to connect before the day of so that he would be able to keep every detail of his proposal a surprise. I highly recommend coordinating your plans with me ahead of time so we can ensure your proposal goes off without a hitch. Suraj planned to wear a certain outfit, sent pictures of himself and Cori to me ahead of time, and we had a cue phrase that would allow us to make contact while keeping Cori in the dark. At this proposal with Suraj and Cori, I had him walk up and ask me to take a photo of the two of them and when he turned to take in the view I brought my camera up to capture him asking Cori to marry him.
I am so excited to help you plan your Colorado proposal and I have so many ideas on how to create a beautiful moment for you two! Let’s start planning your day, so contact me right away to reserve your date.
Wherever you imagine asking your partner, make sure your photographer has a spot to hide or blend in with the surroundings. Some couples hire a photographer for a couple session, and when the moment is right you can get down on one knee. Creating a proposal like this allows your photographer to already be in position and close to catch your partner’s face in the moment. Yet if you choose to have your photographer hidden away as a secret then, we will talk through specifics about how to cue the moment. Engagements and couples‘ portraits are our favorites, so sharing in your proposal is incredible to us. Once you are engaged, then I highly recommend looking at our engagement guide to help guide you as you plan your session. Make sure to contact me to begin planning your dream engagement session.
I was elated capture Suraj and Cori’s engagement, and of course she said “yes!” with the biggest shout of joy! After he proposed, I walked Cori and Suraj around the lake to a few spots that I scouted out ahead of time to capture the joy of their new journey together. I love getting to stick around for a little while after your proposal to capture portraits of just you two. Suraj and Cori’s joy and excitement was so radiant and their smiles so huge as I photographed them. I loved getting to capture the fresh joy on their faces. Not to mention that ring was absolutely stunning and matched Cori’s radiant grin beautifully! Once we wrapped up their photos, Suraj and Cori celebrated that evening with a romantic dinner in Estes Park and couldn’t wait to share the news with their family and friends.
