I wanted to share some ideas with you about why it is so important to have your engagement photos taken by your wedding photographer. I think that is one of the greatest ways to connect as a couple prior to your wedding date.
Some newly engaged couples consider forgoing their engagements. Yet, I think it’s actually a wonderful way to celebrate as a couple before you begin the whirlwind of wedding planning.
If you’re like me, I’m sure that your wedding planning is daunting and also exciting. But there’s nothing more important than finding ways to celebrate the two of you. Your engagement session is an opportunity to fall in love again just like you did when you said ‘yes!’. You get to step away from the busyness of work, friends, and family to celebrate your engagement quietly in front of the camera. If you feel like adding a little extra to your celebration, then bring some glasses and pop a bottle of champagne. You can also share your engagement portraits with your loved ones as an extension of your excitement and celebration.
2) Wedding Planning Images:
Creating images from your engagement session for save the dates is an important step in your wedding planning process, especially in a post-Covid 19 world. Save the dates give you the opportunity to lock in a date months in advance, and you can announce your engagement to your select guest list. Your engagement portraits are also a wonderful addition to your wedding website and social media profiles. Some of my clients print a few of the engagements to be framed and showcased at their wedding reception.
3) Trial Runs
If you are hiring a hair and make up artist for your bridal looks, which I highly recommend, then you may be able to set up a trial make up look with your stylist. Your engagement session is a perfect opportunity to do so. This will give you the time to work with your stylist to perfect your wedding day look, as well as discover what looks you may or may not what to include.
Another aspect of your engagement session is that you and I can work on different poses and outfit ideas well before your wedding day. My clients often aren’t certain on how to pose or connect as a couple in front of the camera, so I can help guide you through different poses during your engagements. Your fiancé may indicate that they have a favorite side to be photographed on or you may find that you love the moments of you two dancing together. All of this helps tremendously as we prepare together for your dream couple portraits on your wedding day.
As your wedding photographer, I love the opportunity to bond with you as my client. The relationship we build well before your wedding helps facilitate my ability to naturally guide you both during your couple portraits and beyond. Your wedding day will sure to be a blur, but moments that we can find before the date to celebrate your love story in a slower manner are always worth it. One of my favorite elements of my clients’ engagement session is the opportunity to press pause on all of the whirlwind of wedding planning to have a few quiet, intimate moments photographed together.
I believe you’ll be surprised at how special these moments will be to you in the future, so don’t skip out on such a vital step as a newly engaged couple.
I so look forward to meeting you! Let’s schedule your engagement session right away!
