Season after season, Garden of the Gods never ceases to be an awe-striking park in Colorado Springs. Based at the foot of Pike’s Peak one of Colorado’s 58 fourteeners, this stunning natural wonder is a site that draws crowds year round. From red rocks shaped into Kissing Camels, Cathedral points, and even balanced on the edge of a precipice at Balanced Rock views from each spot in the park are breathtaking. This Garden of the Gods couple’s session is one of my favorites.
Garden of the Gods is truly a site to behold, and I have found over the years of photographing couples that is one of the most perfect locations on the front range for beautiful portraits. Couple’s sessions and engagement portraits in side of the gardens along side intimate weddings are some of my favorite ways to spend time here.
Garden of the Gods still feels like a garden of Eden even in its high traffic seasons, yet I am always in awe each time I visit. Acres of hiking trails and picnic grounds serve as a wonderful local spot for portrait photography of all sorts. In Colorado as the seasons move from one to another, we can often have crazy snaps of cold that cover our mountains in snow, or we can have a lucky warm day just like this one with Katrina and Ben. I couldn’t believe how lucky we were to actually feel hot at the end of April in the Rockies. Katrina and Ben joined me on this perfect springs day for their couple’s session at a beloved hiking spot. I am always looking for the best spots for portraits, and Garden of the Gods for couple’s session is a win every time.
From the start, I saw the ease and joy of their connection. They were so warm and calming to be around that I instantly loved just being able to share this beautiful day with them. Covid had been very hard on the couple with so much separation from their loved ones over the last year. They were new to the state, but their strong connection and love for cooking amazing meals together kept their time together strong and comforting. Isolation is truly not a natural element of our humanity, but during the pandemic it was a necessary aspect of protecting our health and wellness across the globe. I could see in Katrina and Ben’s connection how much they missed their loved ones, yet they were so grateful for their relationship that them strong through the hardest days of the pandemic. It was truly a joy to laugh along side them and to photograph their love story.
Thank you for sharing the evening with me, Katrina and Ben!
