With fall aspens at their peak, my final engagement session of the year began at Meyer Ranch Park with Alexandra and Francis and their sweet pup Scarlet. Meyer Ranch Park just outside of Morisson, Colorado was the perfect setting for their sweet autumn portraits together as a newly engaged couple. With their wedding still over 6 months away, I loved the time spent with Alexandra and Francis connecting, laughing, and hiking through this gorgeous park. If you are familiar with Red Rock Amphitheater, this spot is just a few miles into the mountains outside the famous concert venue. I love this venue for their incredible summer concert series, so it was wonderful exploring other areas near such a fun and memorable place for me.
As is so often in the fall in Colorado, the trails just inside the park were fairly crowded with young families having their portraits taken, so we chose to hike further back to avoid any accidental photo bombers. When planning for a Meyer Ranch Park engagement session, it would be a great idea to avoid weekends to combat some of the busier times for the trails. When I can, I like to avoid taking my couples out on the weekends so we can preserve the intimacy of an engagement session and enjoy the surroundings uninterrupted. Even on such a busy fall day, we were able to find hidden spots deeper into the park among the aspens. The park is surrounded by private land, so make sure to stay on the trails to lead you to the right areas.
Scarlet, Alexandra and Francis’ sweet dog, definitely stole the show and my heart along with it. She was a perfect addition to their session, and I loved spending time with their beloved pet. Nothing brings me closer to my couples like spending time with their pets, so I am always excited when my couples ask to bring their fur babies along for their portraits. Meyer Ranch Park engagement sessions with your fur babies are a must! These little loves are a big part of your love story anyway, right?! Some of my favorite shots of Alexandra and Francis are with Scarlet walking playfully beside them. I’m secretly hoping Scarlet makes an appearance on their wedding day! Meyer Ranch Park is a haven for dogs with easily accessible trails and very few steep hills. I love having pets along for sessions, but I want to ensure they are safe hiking and running along the trails just like you are safe during your photos.
One thing to note about this lovely park is that it is surrounded by mountains on either side, which means the sun will be setting more quickly than at a location like the Boulder Flatirons. We planned for an earlier time to make sure we had plenty of sunlight. So when heading to Meyer Ranch Park in the fall or winter months, we may need to start our session in the mid-afternoon. Once the sun dips behind those green hills, the windchill picks up quickly so I found that I needed a warm coat even in the early fall. I am a huge proponent of carrying a light weight coat even in the summer months. Nothing ruins a session like being too cold! Even though the sunset is fairly quick compared to some other popular engagement locations, the sunsets are exquisite. We stayed around a little past sunset to capture the dusky evening glow, and I am so happy we did. Meyer Ranch Park engagements are quickly become a favorite of mine. I love how easily accessible this location is for couples in Denver and Boulder.
The yellow aspen leaves popped even more beautifully in the dusky blue hour. Some of my favorite portraits are often towards the end of a session when my couples are truly relaxed. We have gotten the must-have shots out of the way, and now it is time to just be together and play. Scarlet was 1000% ready to play! I am so grateful for the time this fall with this beautiful, sweet couple and I am already counting down the days until their wedding in May.
