Spring Painted Mines Engagement with C + L :: Jenna Wren Photography

filed in

Slushy runoff ran down the canyon walls and mixed with the pink clay the evening we ran through the Paint Mines in Calhan, Colorado to capture this beautiful couple. As an engagement photographer, I worried about the weather all day as the fog had settled in over the Front Range stretching from the western slopes far past our home in Colorado Springs. Yet, we were so determined to get these pictures taken. As we drove east, the fog lifted into stunning blue skies that lit the canyon walls. We drove with a mission as a pandemic stretched its claws wide across our nation, and the stay at-home orders loomed ominous.

Charlie and Lizet set their wedding date for early May, but like so many couples this year they’re anxiously waiting to see if their day will be celebrated this season as planned. So capturing these memories with them that Friday evening felt even more serious and pressing. Engagement sessions are such an amazing way to connect and relax as a couple long before the big day.

The future lies unknown for their wedding date, but their love story will endure. Winston Churchill brilliantly spoke these words “Never, never, never give up.” My hope is that these words ring true for all couples facing the possibility of their wedding plans changing. Charlie and Lizet’s engagement is a great joy in our family’s life, and I am so honored to have captured this moment with them.

We drudged through the muddy trails with our shoes heavy with clay to capture their engagements. The Paint Mines hold a special place for both of them, and I am so grateful we were able to capture these memories for together. Lizet selected the perfect colors and outfits to match the beautiful colors of the mine. And once the sun dipped a little below the horizon, the pinks and oranges mixed with the snow blew our minds.

A few minutes after the sun dropped, the temperatures began to drop as well. We spent the last hour of their session blowing hot air into our hands and shrugging off their coats as we shot the last few frames. I love the thrill of shooting in the winter and early spring, especially with couples. The temperatures may be below freezing, but their laughter and love warms my heart!

Thank you both for trusting your engagement session to me! I love you both, and I can’t wait for the wedding!
