Austin is a place that stays with you. As a wedding photographer, I am a hopeless romantic and seeker of light. I have been drawn to this warm and busy Texas town over and over the last year. Steve and I spent a few quick days along the Lake Travis shoreline in July last year, and I was hooked. The trip was a dream and we ended up spending an afternoon on the water with a boat rental company.
I knew that we had to bring the kids. So we packed up the car and drove 13 + hours to enjoy Austin with the family. I knew that it would be wonderful to experience a new city with them. I carried my Pentax Asahi 35 mm with us for our excursions. I love the nostalgic look that 35mm captures moments in real life. I couldn’t wait to get the frames back!
We stayed at a quiet Airbnb in Briarcliffe about 1 hour east of Austin. The green rolling hills greeted us like a gentle hug. I spent the Saturday of our trip in Austin as a wedding photographer assisting the talented Lucy Struve at Mercury Hall. I am excited to begin as an Austin wedding photographer this next year. Working with new vendors and in a warmer climate will be such a treat.
One of the days we were in the area, I knew I wanted to head north to Waco to visit Magnolia and the Silos. Our trip was amazing! The kids loved the shaved ice, and I had a blast strolling the shops at the Silos. On our final night in Austin, we took the kids to the South Congress bridge to await the bat flyover that happens in the summer and fall months. We saw a few bats flutter above the crowd gathered on the bridge and the SUPs and canoes on the water of Lady Bird Lake. Yet the entire trip was a memory that I will never forget. Truly this incredible spot of the world stays with you, and I cannot wait to return.
