Some love stories let you in slowly.

You are there at the beginning, when the future is still held closely between two people. You photograph the proposal—the breath before the yes, the surprise, the happy disbelief. Then there is the engagement session, when they begin to practice being seen together in this new season. And then, one day, there is a wedding weekend: all of the people who made them who they are gathered in one room, ready to celebrate the life they have chosen.

That was Madison and Ashe.

From their proposal through their engagement and into their wedding weekend at The Arlo, I had the rare privilege of documenting their story as it unfolded. By the time their wedding day arrived, I did not feel as though I was walking into a room of strangers to photograph an event. I was watching two people I had come to know step fully into a moment they had been building toward all along.

As an Austin wedding photographer, these are the stories that stay with me. Not simply a beautiful dress, a gorgeous venue, or a packed dance floor—though Madison and Ashe had all of that—but a relationship with history, ease, style, and the kind of joy that makes everyone around it feel more alive.

A wedding weekend, not just a wedding day

Madison and Ashe understood the assignment from the beginning: let the weekend feel like them.

The best wedding weekends are not built around a strict timeline or a perfectly staged version of celebration. They make room for people. For the anticipation before the ceremony. For friends seeing one another after too long apart. For family members lingering in doorways, hugs that last a little longer, and the quiet moments a couple finds together once the room begins to fill.

Because I had photographed Madison and Ashe from proposal onward, I was able to document their wedding with a deeper sense of what mattered. I knew the shorthand between them. The way they made one another laugh. The tenderness underneath the style. The people who had been part of their story from the start.

Their wedding at The Arlo in Dripping Springs felt expansive and deeply personal at once: a beautiful Austin celebration with all of the polish of a destination-worthy event, but rooted in the people who loved them most.

A modern Austin wedding at The Arlo

The Arlo is one of those rare Hill Country venues that makes a real case for staying close to Austin.

Just outside Dripping Springs, it has the openness and wide-sky feeling couples love about the Hill Country, with a much more modern, architectural point of view. Its light-filled interiors, iron-and-glass windows, clean lines, and warm neutral palette create a beautiful canvas for a wedding without asking a couple to choose between the city energy of Austin and the natural beauty beyond it.

For Madison and Ashe, it was the perfect setting.

The venue has a way of holding both sides of a celebration: the quiet, anticipatory moments before the ceremony and the full, electric energy of a reception once the party begins. It is polished without feeling cold, contemporary without feeling stark, and flexible enough to let the couple’s own style lead.

Their day felt joyful, elegant, and entirely alive. The kind of wedding where the design is beautiful because it serves the people in the room—not because it asks them to stand back and admire it.

Photographing Madison and Ashe

There is an enormous difference between photographing a wedding and photographing a relationship.

With Madison and Ashe, the work was never about manufacturing a version of romance that did not already exist. It was about paying attention. Giving them enough direction to feel confident, then stepping back when they were laughing together, when a glance turned into something softer, or when the celebration around them became too good to interrupt.

I photographed the wedding with the same intention I had brought to their proposal and engagement session: editorial where it served the frame, documentary where the real moment was already happening, and always attentive to the feeling underneath it all.

They were magnetic together. Stylish, warm, funny, and fully present with one another. Their wedding photographs needed to feel like that—not overly posed, not overly precious, but full of movement and life. A story of two people who know exactly how to have a beautiful time with the people they love.

How I photograph a wedding at The Arlo

The Arlo gives an Austin wedding photographer so much to work with because every part of the property holds light differently.

The architectural windows are especially beautiful for getting-ready portraits and those quieter in-between moments before a ceremony begins. I love using them to create layered, editorial frames: a bride reflected in glass, a groom waiting just beyond a doorway, a wedding party moving through the room while the Texas landscape remains soft in the background.

Its clean interior palette also means the people and design get to remain the focus. Skin tones photograph beautifully. Fashion has room to breathe. Floral design, stationery, and tablescapes can feel elevated without competing with an overly busy space. It is a venue that gives a celebration structure without making every wedding look the same.

Outside, the Hill Country becomes its own character in the story. I would use the grounds for portraits with movement and space—walking, talking, pausing together in the wind—rather than placing a couple stiffly in front of a view. The goal is never simply to prove that the landscape was there. It is to make the image feel like it could only have been made there.

As the light begins to fall, The Arlo shifts again. The clean architecture becomes warmer, the windows begin to glow, and a reception takes on that wonderful late-night energy where all of the beautiful planning finally gives way to celebration. This is when I stay close to the dance floor, watching for the split-second expressions, the joyful chaos, the friends who have completely forgotten there is a camera in the room.

A love story I will always be grateful to have witnessed

Madison and Ashe’s wedding was not simply one perfect day at a beautiful Austin venue.

It was the continuation of a story I had been lucky enough to witness from the beginning: the proposal, the engagement, the anticipation, and then the remarkable gift of everyone they love gathering to celebrate what they have built together.

That is the part I will always remember.

The way their people showed up. The beauty of the day, yes, but also the feeling of it. The laughter. The style. The joy that never felt performative. Madison and Ashe created a wedding weekend that was elevated, emotional, and deeply true to them.
